Introduction
What's Show & Tell?
It's the easiest way to share Web pages and collaborate with your friends. Update your collection of Web pages and your friends instantly see the changes. You can instantly see changes they make. It's also a place to comment, share opinions and ideas about what you find interesting on the Web.
What's a shared folder?
It's a collection of Web pages that that a group of people can look at, make comments about and contribute to. The folder's owner is the person who originally sends the folder to her/his friends.
What do the orange ° and + symbols mean?
If you're the owner of a shared folder, you'll see a ° symbol next to the folder. Whether you're the owner or recipient of a shared folder, you'll see a + symbol each time somebody adds to it.
Does "You've backflipped x pages" include pages in shared folders I don't own?
No. At the top of your screen, it says how many pages you've backflipped. That number only includes the pages you have saved. It doesn't include pages that are in folders that somebody sent to you.
Is My Top Ten affected when I click on Web pages in shared folders I don't own?
No. Your Top Ten (your personal list on your homepage) changes only when you click on pages in folders that you own.
If You Receive A Folder...
Adding, Copying, Deleting, and Sharing
Can I add pages to this shared folder if I don't own it?
Yes, as long as the owner allows friends to contribute. Click the folder and look below the folder's Name. You'll see, "You can add pages to this folder."
What happens if I add a folder to my Backflip directory?
You'll have instant access to lots of new stuff. You'll see it at the bottom of your home page. You'll be able to search its contents. If the owner allows others to contribute, you'll be able to add Web pages to it.
What happens if I DON'T add a folder to my Backflip directory?
You won't instantly see all the Web pages that go into this folder. (And you might hurt your friend's feelings.) But you can still receive email updates about this folder if you choose. And you'll get back to the folder by clicking the link in the email.
What happens when I copy a shared folder?
Copying a folder allows you to create a duplicate of the folder that you own as an unshared folder. Select Copy next to the folder's name and click OK in the dialog box that appears. You'll now have a new, private folder as well as the original shared folder.
What happens when I delete a shared folder I don't own?
It's no longer part of your directory. You're no longer sharing it with the owner and other friends. Any page you had added to it will still be there for your friends.
Who sees new pages that recipients add to a shared folder?
Everyone who's sharing the folder sees all the pages that each person adds.
Can I create a subfolder under a shared folder?
No. Recipients of shared folders may not create subfolders under the shared folder.
Why can't I find one of my shared folders?
The owner probably has deleted it or unshared it with you. If so, you'll receive an email indicating this. And you'll automatically get your own copy of it in your unshared collection.
Can I delete a specific page?
No. Only the folder's owner can delete a page.
Can I share a folder that has been shared with me?
Yes, but only if the owner of the folder allows you to do so.
Changing Name, Description, Location
Can I edit a shared folder's Name and Description?
Yes. Simply click the folder and click [Edit] next to the folder's name. Then make your changes. Changes to this information are only visible to you. Thus, different people can have different Name and Description information for a given shared folder.
Can I change this shared folder's location?
No. If you're not the owner of the folder you're sharing, you always find the folder at the bottom of your home page (My Folders).
Email Updates
How do I receive email updates about my friend's folder?
You automatically receive them! Each time someone adds new pages to the shared folder, you'll get an email to keep you in touch with all the new stuff. If you don't want updates, click the folder, then click [Edit] and uncheck Send me updates about this folder. Select Save Changes. Or, if you haven't added the folder to your Backflip directory, uncheck send me updates about this folder.
How do I discontinue receiving email updates about my friend's folder?
If you don't want updates, click the folder, then click [Edit] and uncheck Send me updates about this folder. Select Save Changes. Or, if you haven't added the folder to your Backflip directory, uncheck Send me updates about this folder.
Why do all email updates come from the owner, even though others are adding pages?
This way, if you share many folders with different owners, you can quickly identify whose folder it is. You'll find the actual contributor's name in the body of the email.
How often do I receive email updates?
Each time a friend adds a new page to the folder, you receive an update. You won't receive updates when the owner deletes a page, or if someone changes their folder Name or Description.

Who can say something about this folder?
Anyone who received it from the owner as well as the owner.
How do I say something about this folder?

If You Send A Folder...
My Friends
Who is sharing my folder?
When you click a shared folder, take a look at the list of email addresses on the right side of your screen. It indicates which of your friends are sharing your folder as well as those who've viewed it without sharing it. Friends with a globe next to their names have shared your folder. Friends with an open eye next to their names have only looked at your folder - they have not added it to their Backflip accounts. Friends with a closed eye next to their names have not yet looked at it. If you've enabled your friends to subsequently share the folder with their friends, the names nested beneath your friends are those people who your friends shared the folder with.
Can I share with people who are not current Backflip members?
Yes! Absolutely. Recipients who are not Backflip members will be able to view and comment on the folder. They use the link in the original email to get back to the shared folder location. Non-Members may not add pages to the folder, regardless of permission. Once your friend joins Backflip, the shared folder becomes part of his or her Backflip folder collection.
Can I change whether or not my friends can add pages to my folder?
Yes. Select [Edit] next to the folder name and check or uncheck Let my friends contribute to this folder, then Save Changes.
Can I allow some friends to add pages, while preventing others?
No. You either allow all of them or none of them to add pages to a folder.
Can my friends share the folder with others?
Yes, only if you allow it. To allow your friends to invite others into your folder simply check "Encourage my friends to invite other people to share this folder" option when you share the folder. This option is also available by clicking [Edit] next to the folder name.
How do I stop my friends from sharing my folder with someone else?
If you would like to change the status of whether or not a friend can invite others, click the [Edit] link next to the folder name and check or uncheck the "Encourage my friends to invite other people to share this folder" then Save Changes.
May I share a folder with an entire mailing list, i.e., everyone@mycompany.com?
We don't recommend it. If you wish to share a folder with the members of a mailing list, we suggest that you enter each email address separately instead of sending to the mailing list address.
Can I invite more friends to share a folder that I've already shared with others?
Yes, as long as you own the folder. Send it to more friends the same way you did when you first shared the folder.
How do I know that only the people I select will view my folder?
Only invite the people you want to share with. It's your choice whom to share (or unshare) with. If a friend forwards your folder to somebody who shouldn't see it, just unshare it with that person.
Why do I see email addresses of people I didn't share my folder with?
One of three things probably happened. A friend you sent it could have changed the address where she or he receives email. A friend shared the folder with someone else (only if you allow your friends to do this, see Can my friends share the folder with others? above) Or, a friend forwarded your folder to somebody else. You can use the Speak Your Mind section to ask who forwarded it. And you can always unshare the folder with people you prefer not to see it.
Adding, Copying, Deleting, and "Unsharing"
How do I stop sharing my folder?
Select the folder you wish to unshare. When viewing the shared folder, in the Show & Tell section, click on the number of friends you're sharing it with. Then click Unshare next to the friend you wish to stop sharing your folder with. Or, if you wish to make this a completely private folder click Unshare All. Then select OK in the dialog box that appears. You did it!
If I delete or "unshare" a folder, how will my friends find out?
They'll receive an email indicating that you've deleted or unshared it. The shared folder will now be among of each friend's unshared folders.
Who sees new pages that recipients add to a shared folder?
Everyone who's sharing the folder sees all the pages that each person adds.
Can non-Backflip members add pages?
No. To add pages, you must be a Backflip member.
Can I delete a specific page?
Sure. But remember that it will be deleted from each of your friend's accounts too.

Why do all email updates come from the owner, even though others are adding pages?
This way, if you share many folders with different owners, you can quickly identify whose folder it is. You'll find the actual contributor's name in the body of the email.

Address Book
What should I use my Address Book for?
It's a fast way to select which friends you wish to share folders with. You don't need to type in your friends emails each time. Plus you don't need to remember the exact address.
Why is my address book already filled with my friends?
Backflip automatically fills up your Address Book as you send pages and share folders with friends. As you type emails in the Show & Tell section of your folder, your Address Book grows. It also grows each time you type an email in the Backflip It! pop up window.
How do I quickly add friends I wish to share a folder with?
From any folder, click Address Book in the Show & Tell section of your screen. Then, select the checkboxes next to the friends you want to share with. Click Done to close the Address Book. Type your message and select share this folder.

In General
Can I share my Everything Else folder?
No. This is really intended as a holding place for un-filed pages.
Can I share my subfolder within a folder?
Yes, but independently. When you share a folder, any of its subfolders are not included. That is, the recipients cannot see the subfolders or their contents. If you select a subfolder and share it, the recipients will see it as a top level folder -- it will not appear as a subfolder to them -- but it will remain a subfolder for you.
